The Millipede is commonly referred to as a ‘jungle train’. They get the name for their many legs, popularly assumed to be thousand in number. But in fact, they have less than 300 legs.
Millipedes do not move one foot forward at a time. They move five or six in unison. When threatened, they will curl up into a ball to intimidate attackers.
There are 10,000 species of millipede around. Mostly black or dark red in colour, they are herbivores. Millipedes make great pets.
Millipedes can live up to ten years.
